LifeBEAM gear mounts directly to your cycling helmet providing an accurate read of your heart rate and calories burned in real time. The design is simple, clean, and easy to install. Best of all, it eliminates the hassle of uncomfortable and bulky chest straps!
The sensor is placed within the exiting headband and communicates with a processing unit at the back of the helmet. The system uses an optical sensor that measures your heart rate based on blood flow beneath the skin on your forehead. Although the sensor looks as though it protrudes from the helmet, it easily squishes down and is so soft and comfortable that you completely forget it is there while riding!
The lifeBEAM heart rate technology is renowned for its precise measurements as it was originally developed to monitor vital signs of astronauts and pilots. Now with this unique partnership between Lazer and LifeBEAM, you can have the same technology any time you ride!
As the video above describes, installing the DIY kit is effortless and takes no times at all. First, click the LED light into place on the back of the mount. Then slide the mount into the back of the helmet like this, and click on the brain unit. After that, remove the front lining of the helmet and replace it with the LifeBEAM padding and sensor. Then feed the wire through to the back of the helmet and plug in the wire.
Once the kit is installed, you can connect your smart phone, cycling computer or watch. The device pairs via bluetooth or ant +. If you use your phone, you can download the free Lifebeam App – In the app press connect to start – then LifeBEAM Gear. Once connected, you will see a blue light and hear 3 beeps on the processing unit. Now you can put your helmet on and start riding!
If you are in Canada, you can purchase a select few helmets that already come with the lifeBEAM kit such as the Lazer Grace. Otherwise, you can order the lifeBEAM DIY kit which comes with a clear mount, padding sensor, processing unit and LED light. The LifeBEAM DIY kit is compatible with a range of Lazer helmets including the Z1, Cosmo, Blade, Elle, Magma and Jade.
