Choosing Your Tire Pressure

Tire pressure is an often overlooked aspect of proper bike maintenance. Our friends at Bicycling.com recently wrote a great article on commonly made mistakes when dialling in tire pressure. You can find it here.

The article makes note of the inaccuracy of most pump gauges. Even a high-quality pump like Topeak’s JoeBlow series reads pressure at the gauge, not at the tire, so it can be off by a couple of PSI. Picking up a separate pressure gauge can alleviate this.

If you’re looking to experiment with lower tire pressures, or different pressures front and rear while on your road bike, we recommend a good, tough set of tires, like WTB’s Freedom line. These tires are reinforced in both the belt and sidewall allowing you to run lower pressures without running as high a risk of flats!
