Staff Pick: Topeak Torquebox

One of the perks of my position at LTP Sports is the frequency with which I get to try out new parts. With all the constant changes I make to my bikes, I often find myself midway through a ride and needing to adjust my bike. Whether changing the angle of a handlebar, brake lever or shifter, or adjusting my saddle height so that I have proper leg extension on a road ride, I make a lot of small adjustments to my bikes setup on the road or trail.

Many of the components I use have very specific torque settings. Carbon fiber components; frames, seatposts and handlebars in particular, don’t react well to being under or over-torqued. But I like to pack light on my rides, and I’m sure not going to lug an extra 3 pounds of torque wrench on my rides in the off chance that I’ll need to adjust something.

Enter the Topeak Nano Torquebox . This compact multitool attachment comes with a slide-on bit preset to click at 4, 5, or 6nm increments. Slip it on your 5mm allen key, and use the supplied Allen or Torx bit to tighten just about any bike component. I take the 5nm torque-bit and an assortment of standard bits on every ride, as these are sufficient to adjust the majority of my components, including my carbon bar/stem interface, my control surfaces, stem and seatpost.

The nano torquebox is small and unobtrusive, easy to slip in a pocket. The case keeps all bits together, and prevents them from getting lost in a backpack or the back of the car.

The Topeak Nano Torquebox is a must-have for anyone who likes to make bike adjustments to their high-end equipment on the road or trail.
