New bike day is always exciting, but bike day with a newly redesigned Norco Sight C9.2 is particularly awesome. Chris Mayo, head of the QC department at LTP Sports, had the joy of customizing this Norco Sight earlier this year. Since he first built it and took it to the trails, Chis has been over the moon with the bike, and particularly with his customizations to the build. He’s put a lot of miles on it so far, and can’t wait to log even more on the trails around Maple Ridge, BC.
“I have been waiting a long time to ride a proper 29er trail bike and this is a proper 29er trail bike!”
-Chris
Chis is running his Sight at longer travel than comes stock on the 29″ version, preferring a 150mm travel fork found on the 27.5″ wheeled model. The stability that a slacker head-tube angle provides allows Chris to keep up with the more gravity-inspired riders that he frequently hits the trails with.
“The trail options here can be aggressive so having the extra 10mm in the fork helps a lot if you’re pushing the bike.”
-Chris
Chris swears by his E-13 TRS-R tires. We reviewed these tires earlier this year, noting the incredibly tough sidewall and wide spaced cornering lugs. These tires are meant to be cornered hard and shed mud easily, even in spring riding conditions.
“The E-13 tires are my favorite upgrade that I’ve made to this bike. They might not be the fastest rolling, but they grip to everything no matter the conditions”
-Chris
Chris sets his cockpit up low and wide with a DMR Wingbar 3, which he has cut down to 780 mm (the bar ships at a full 800mm width). A WTB volt saddle keeps him comfy when he’s pedalling, and its bevelled shape is slim enough to be out of the way when descending.
The Thornhill trails near Chris’ house are where he spends most of his time. While these trails can be challenging for experienced riders who want to really open their bikes up and hit them at top speed, they are particularly suitable for new riders, due to the lack of gnarly technical descents and mandatory features. Chris spends most of his time riding with the many very experienced riders here at LTP Sports, but every once in a while he gets to show a beginner around the trails. We asked him what advice he’d give to someone just getting into trail riding.
“My biggest piece of advice for a new rider getting into trail riding is to make sure the bike fits you. Get it set up by someone with experience in the kind of riding you intend to start out with and you’ll have a better riding experience overall”
-Chris
