511% Gear Range – The E*13 TRS+ Cassette Reviewed

Andrew Major of NSMB thrashed the e*13 TRS+ cassette through a grimy and muddy west coast winter, and loved it! The cassette, not the weather. While the ‘wet coast’ certainly lived up to it’s name this winter, a lack of serious snowfall meant that there was plenty of opportunity to trash-test new products in all sorts of gritty, grimy and muddy conditions. Through all of that, and despite being mounted alongside old and worn-out drivetrain components, the e*13 TRS+ cassette kept Andrew smiling and his wheels turning all winter long.

“This e13 TRS+ cassette was not that lucky. Three different bikes, four different chains in various condition, and five different chainrings from brand-new to ‘how does the chain stay on there’ were mated to the 9-46t 11spd cassette. ”
-Andrew Major, NSMB.com

Andrew notes the ease-of install on the TRS+ cassette, and how it improved the shifting quality, even over his (notoriously good) stock SRAM cassette.

“The chain was already well used but even so, up-shifts were crisp and down-shifts were crisper than with the stock, albeit worn, SRAM cassette. ”
-Andrew Major

The TRS+ cassette gives those with 11spd drivetrains the 500%+ range associated with SRAM’s Eagle line of 12 speed drivetrains. This wider range means that riders can conquer a wider range of terrains than with a standard 11 speed spread, ideal for those who spend their time in bike parks, where both ends of the range can be needed in a single run.

“Chuck on a 28t oval ring and climb everything without giving up the high gear.”
-Andrew Major

The e*13 TRS+ cassette is built around a single-piece aluminum carrier for the largest three cogs, with the remainder manufactured out of the standard steel. This keeps the overall weight down without sacrificing durability.

“If it wasn’t for the durability I wouldn’t care about the weight savings, but I have to say that given how well the TRS+ is holding up the fact it’s less money and lighter than an X01 cassette and a lot lighter than a Shimano XT M8000 cassette is impressive.”

“There are several reasons to choose the TRS+ 9-46 cassette; excellent shifting and durability, flawless compatibility, lightweight construction, and of course cost savings from buying one 250 USD cassette rather than a fresh drivetrain. If the e13 TRS+ makes sense to you then it’s an excellent product.”

If you’re looking for an easy way to increase the range of your 11speed drivetrain, or breathe some fresh life into your current bike, the TRS+ cassette is a great way to go. Easy to install, tough and light, the e*13 TRS+ cassette is available through your local Live to Play Sports dealer.
