iXS Xult Helmet Review

With bike park season nearly upon us, my excitement level is at an all-time high for the new Berrecloth Edition iXS Xult helmet. Serious Enduro, downhill, or park riding requires a full-face helmet, but none of us want the heat and lack of venting associated with most high-protection headgear. The Xult stands apart from other full-face helmets though, as it features 22 vents and an impressive 1100g weight, all while passing the stringent ASTM-DH certification.

As you may recall from our recent blog on helmet certifications, having the ASTM-DH sticker on your helmet is a hard-won honour. The Xult has the strength and support necessary to pass this certification, as well as the usual CPSC and CEN tests (for materials quality, venting and lifespan).

What makes this certification even more impressive is the fact that it does all this while weighing the same as most high-end carbon helmets, without using carbon fibre in its construction! IXS are committed to the lower environmental impact of their FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) shell.

There’s a lot of technology packed into this helmet. iXS have a proprietary padding design, Xmatter absorption foam, which is pliable but hardens on impact. This is fitted around the helmets Xrail reinforcement, providing structure to the helmet and lowering weight. The Emergency Padding Release (EPR) ensures that in the event of a serious crash the helmet can be removed without the risk of moving the riders neck.
