Some of the unique features of Spank rims revolve around their proprietary technologies and designs: Micro Grain Refined, or MGR Alloys, Oobah Rim Structure, and their BeadBite Anti-Burp, and BeadNip tire fitment designs.
Spank refines their alloy materials to an ultra-fine level to improve alloy consistency and orientation in pre-production. This process helps to deliver the ultimate strength, toughness, and ductility in Spank’s premium Dynamal technology rims. Blended magnesium-silicone hardened alloy yields tremendous tensile strength in a lightweight package comparable to carbon-fiber.
Spank’s patented OohBah profile is characterized by its inverted rim well. Spank’s combination of a concave outer wall with convex inner well lends massive strength and stiffness to the rim and places the center of inertia in the optimum position nearer the center of the profile. The OohBah profile also allows Spank to manufacture thinner walled, wider profiled, lighter rims without sacrificing strength or rigidity.
Spank takes Tubeless to the next level with BeadBite Anti-burp Technology, designed to hold the bead in place to avoid burping under lateral load. 6 rows of tiny ridges run along the vertical and horizontal faces of the bead seats, creating an air seal between the rim and tire. This also reduces the bead‘s ability to move vertically or horizontally, improving tire stability. For those running tubes, BeadBite also reduces the risk of pinch flats.
Another cool feature about Spank rims is their double BeadNip technology. Traditional rims feature a bead hook on the vertical wall. Spank rims feature a second hook (or nip) on the inner tube well, trapping a tire bead against the inner sidewall to prevent tire movement.
