From the Kinetic blog:
We’re excited to announce the release of our new Smart Power Trainers and Kinetic Fit app! We’ve combined our industry-leading fluid resistance trainers, completely updated inRide sensor technology and the Kinetic Fit app for affordable, accurate power training. Download the new Kinetic Fit iOS app here.
What is power training?
Power is a constant measure of your work output at any given moment, and is the most accurate metric to use for building workouts and tracking progress over time. Using heart rate alone to measure effort is an incomplete picture and can be misleading when judging training intensity and results. Heart rate lags when starting an effort on the bike and can drift as a workout progresses whereas our Smart Power Trainers and Kinetic Fit app provide an instantaneous read out showing how hard you’re going and will do so for the entire workout. The result is a more efficient training session with steadier efforts, measurable gains and more accurate post-ride data including: calories burned, average wattage, total training stress and intensity.
What does the Kinetic Fit app do?
Kinetic Fit is a cycling app that not only measures and records speed, power, cadence, heart rate, and calories, but also syncs to your phone or tablet via Bluetooth to provide a fitness test, hundreds of workouts, and guided training plans with scheduling and more. Key features include:
- Newpower-training plans (coming soon!) with 100s of accompanying workouts — developed especially for Kinetic by professional coach and athlete Drew Edsall
- Built-in Fitness Test— Helps you set training zones and track improvement
- Second screen viewing with in-app video player— using Apple TV or a direct HDMI, riders can watch videos on a second monitor while training
- Synchronizable The Sufferfest workouts — select the workout, select the video from your device and activate second-screen viewing and you can train along with the video with customized power and cadence targets and timer.
- Custom Power and Heart Rate Zones— Configure them if you know them, otherwise the built-in fitness test can do it after the workout
- Data Sharing— Social media, Training Peaks, Strava, and others
- Customizable App Displays— Configure displays to show whatever you like see when you train, from 1 to 9 metrics per screen

What makes our trainers Smart?
We felt that Smart was the best model name to describe what you get with our new trainers. What our inRide sensor and Fit app add to your training is guidance. The hardware and software work together not just to tell you what you are doing, but what you should be doing. You get targeted workouts, a training plan, post-ride analysis, and much more. The software doesn’t control the resistance, but you get data to control your training.
The sensor communicates wirelessly via Bluetooth Smart (BLE) to compatible smart devices. Speed and cadence data from the Kinetic fluid resistance unit is translated into power in the Kinetic inRide and Kinetic Fit apps — and displayed in our guided workouts with power and cadence targets. Riders perform workouts based on their current fitness levels. The apps provide targets to keep riders pedaling at the optimal cadence and the correct percentage of their threshold power.
What’s coming next?
