The BikeMaps team of GIS geeks loves cycling just as much as they love maps!
They’ve set out to make your cycling trip safer by compiling data on cycling hazards, combined with rider volume information from Strava, so you can pick the safest route to your destination.
Check out the free online tool at bikemaps.org, and contribute information on roads and routes in your neighbourhood to add to their collection of crowd-sourced info.
“You know your local cycling trouble spots and we want you to map them. Your knowledge of cycling safety, hazards, and even bike thefts will be analyzed using GIS and statistics to identify hot spots of cycling safety, risk, and crime.”
Stay tuned for smart phone apps, which are set to be released in summer 2015 according to their website.
