The resulting bike has the stiffness and durability of the Damocles, with the lighter construction and comfort of the Excalibur—a combination ideal for the sometimes rough farm roads of our test grounds.

Ridley’s balanced geometry helped me keep my arc through winding descents and across loose, bumpy paths. Ridley says that changing the stem angle lets the bike’s medium-length head tube (205mm on my large) satisfy both flexible racers and cyclotourists who prefer an upright position. The Fenix shares ­geometry with the rest of Ridley’s race bikes; a design that’s capable­ of letting you ­maneuver in a high-­speed peloton, on slower rides with others, or solo.
